Doi Tung Area

If you want to enjoy the Switzerland-kind of an atmosphere in Thailand, then Doi Tung is the right place to be in. Here, you can find some of the best attractions of Thailand that makes it a perfect place for recreation. Based within the Chiang Rai province, Doi Tung area features the refreshing air of the clear mountain ranges, different species of trees and flowers of western origin, historical buildings, zoo, hotels, restaurants and a lot more. Here are some of the biggest attractions of the Doi Tung area.

Wat Phra That Doi Tung

This is a popular temple that is situated on the peak of the mountain. The height where the temple is based is the highest in the province. It is the most prominent place in the North where Buddhist worship takes place. You have to take route 1149 and cover a distance of 17.5 kilometers and after reaching the place, if the weather remains clear, you can enjoy fascinating vistas of encircling forested areas. The highlight of Wat Phra That Doi Tung is the left collar bone of Lord Buddha.

Doi Tung Zoo

Doi Tung Wildlife Station, which is also known as Doi Tung Zoo is a combination of a wildlife preserve and a zoo. The total area of the zoo covers 200 rai and here the process of breeding rare species of birds and animals are being conducted. While touring the zoo, you can watch different species of wild animals such as deer, muliacus, hogdeer, bear, muntjak, Siamese fireback pheasant, peacock, and hornbill. The walking trails offer the shades of big trees, and it is definitely a rare experience. The zoo remains open from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening and there is no entrance charge.

Mae Fa Luang Garden

Located in the front of the famous Doi Tung Royal Villa, Mae Fa Luang Garden is a huge facility that includes a huge garden with beautiful flowers, a palm garden, a section of ornamental plants, a rock garden and a section for handicraft. Accommodation facilities are also available in the nearby areas of the garden. It is open to the visitors, everyday, and the timings are 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Doi Tung Royal Villa

Finally, the most prominent attraction of the Doi Tung area, the Royal Villa. This is a beautiful two storey building developed by incorporating the architectural styles of Thai and Swiss chalet. The initiative to construct the building was taken by the Princess Mother and long time after her death, the building still draws thousands of tourists every year.

The best time to visit the Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fa Luang Garden is the winter season when you can witness the charm of beautiful blooming flowers and lush forested mountain.
