E-mail Print PDF

Chiang Mai Prison visits are possible for anyone who wishes to help relieve a prisoner of the boredom of his or her day or just to visit a friend or loved one inside.

You can visit either a Thai or foreign prisoners assuming of course you can speak their language.  You are required to turn up at the correctional institution with a proper ID.

Each visit will be a duration of 10 - 15 minutes. Books, magazines, food and monetary donations are always appreciated and must be given to the guards before entering.

At the ladies prison it offers food outside, that can be purchased, that will be given to any friends or family you may have inside or as an anonymous gift to some of the people that have no relative come to visit. Or you may bring their favorite dish and it will be checked and given.

Woman's prison visiting times are on Mondays through to Fridays between 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. The woman's prison is inside the old moat, near Wat Phra Singh just behind the City Arts and Cultural Museum or behind the marriage registrar office, for those that may see the humour in that.
