Dokmai Garden is private botanical garden owned by the Seehamongkol family and was opened to the general public in January 2009 for people to come and learn more about the local floral and fauna of northern Thailand. The family members, who live in this private 4 hectare (10 acres) garden, will be happy to share her Garden and knowledge with you to make a more informed traveler and to prepare you to truly enjoy the other local gardens that may not be as well marked as hers, or national parks where English information may be scarce.Here you find the name in English ,Thai and Japanese of almost all the over 650 plants varieties to be found in the garden.
The numerous multilingual plant detail signs have been placed at points of interest around Dokmai garden including the herb garden. The staff are happy to show you the many plants, explain their traditional uses, as well as let you participate in collecting, processing them.
"Dokmai" is the Thai word for “flower”, but there you will find all number of local living creatures, including but not restricted to birds, fish, butterflies and mushrooms. They have so much more to show you than just orchids. You are
There is small restaurant where you can purchase a wonderful Thai meal or coffee, fruit juices or maybe some wine. The garden shop is a teak wood building made in the Lanna style and has selection of horticultural literature and high quality decorative items for sale. From time to time they also offer rare plants and seed for sale to promote the conservation and use of local plants.
The entry fee os 300 baht per person. However I am sure for any gardening enthusiast find it a day well spent.
