Sak Yant for Women in Chaing Mai

E-mail Print PDF

Yes, women can get proper Sak Yant in Chiang Mai.

It is a gray area on if it is right for monks to do Sak Yant on women due to the touch rules for monks. Yet the intent is for good how can it be wrong? That is not to say all monks will, or should feel they should.

In any case women  can have it preformed by proper Thai monks in some temples around Chiang Mai and can also have a  Oil Sak Yant or the more common Ink Sak Yant the choice is up to the reciever.

An oil based one is done in order not to visually mark the skin, yet is considered to be almost as effective and a visual one. It is done exactly the same with needles however with oil instead of ink.

The monks who offer this do expect the reciepents of either sex to fully understand and respecthe true mening of these Sak Yant and do not take it lightly or as a fashion statement or tourist Souvenior.

An Amazing Experience
written by Sabrina Higgins , February 20, 2012
I just want to personal thank Jit, and recommend everyone to hire "Jit" if they're thinking of arranging for a Sak Yant in Chiang Mai. It is clear she loves to share her culture and is not just a some flyby night tour guide or sleazy "Red bus" driver.
She set up the appointment with the monk, and we drove out there, be prepared is a quite a distance from Chiang Mai city.

Jit also helped with the translation as the monk does not speak English and explained my desires to the monk who clearly respected her. She has a sense of calm that made me sure she was not going to let me do anything wrong that would offend the monk or cause offense to anyone else who was there.
