Rationale:

The Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University was established in 1983 as an institute in the northern region for the teaching and reaming of art and related fields. The 4 objectives of the Faculty include providing education, visual an and culture research. promotion and preservation of art and culture and academic services of the society in general.

In order to achieve the objectives in the promotion and spreading of knowledge about contemporary art and culture to the community. There was a need to set up a concrete organization to carry out the task Therefore. in 1996 the Thai Government. with the realization of the significance of developing contemporary art and culture in conjunction with the development of the economy and industry, agreed to allocate 46 million baht for the construction of the Art Museum which was completed in January. 1998. However, with a limited budget, only the major facilities have been installed. more funds are still being sought for both the interior and the exterior parts of the building as well as the surrounding land.


Objectives of the Art Museum:

1. To be the center for contemporary art and culture.

2. To serve as a center for contemporary an and culture exhibitions at the local. national and international levels To coordinate with and create a good relationship with other contemporary an and cultural organizations both inside and outside the country.

4. To support the teaching of contemporary art and culture at Chiang University and that of other art institutions in the northern region.



Location:

The An Museum is situated on Nimmanhemin Road opposite the Chiang Mai University Auditorium.


Note: The Art Gallery has Changing exhibitions. So check it out often.
