Located 700 kms north of Bangkok, the city has highest mountain peaks in the country. The road distance between Chiang Mai and Pai stretched to approx. 85 kms. The Route 1095 is very picturesque as you will explore through the alpine vegetation and fauna more closely than ever. You can also take SGA Airlines flight to Pai which will get you through in almost 30 minutes. The flight operates in alliance with Nok Air. Besides, you can also hire Fan bus, Mini Bus or A/c luxury buses for the road journey to Chiang Mai.

Personal car and motorcycle tour can also be easily arranged with the help of local tour and travel operators. There are vehicle rental companies in Chiang Mai that arrange one-way rentals to Pai, provided if you are not planning for tour to Chiang Mai. However, motorcycling and car touring can be hazardous experienced, and therefore proper care should be taken heed all safty rules.

Accommodation in Pai

Guesthouses, Hostels, Budget Accommodation and Cheap hotel accommodation are available and many of these offer beautiful and mind boggling view of the river and the mountain. The rafting tour begins from Pai base camp. The camp is where the rafters will make last minute preparations and separate the luggage so that essential items can be stored in individual bags and they can be carried on the rafts. The guide will also provide last minute instructions on the much needed safety and paddling techniques that you should strictly adhere.

Next, put the necessary gear like life jackets and helmets and alight on the sturdy rafts. The experienced raft captains will provide you with further instructions. Start paddling down the river stream and get ready to experience larger “Class V” rapids like the "Nam Hom". The jungle camp along the banks will be the enjoyable retreat for the rafters as they unwind for the day. Sleep in the makeshift tents raised on the bamboo platform and under the mosquito nets. Sleeping and foam mats will be provided to the rafters.

Next day after breakfast, get set and pack the bags for moving further and soon you reach the meeting point of another river Nam Khong. It is here that you will witness many rapids and swells. Soon you reach the Mae Hong Son valley where the white water rafting finally consummates.

The real enjoyment to the rafter comes when he/she plans the expedition keeping in view the challenges and adventures that strikes the entire rafting route.
