. Wat Doi Kam or more correctly it is called Wat Phrathat Doi Kham as it is said to hold a relic of Lord Buddha, the hair in fact. It is not the biggest Temple by any means. But has a nice view over the valley floor. The scale of the buildings is also smaller than most Thai temples now a days. It has had worshipers there for 1300 years which makes it older than Chiang Mai city itself and is more to do with the Haripunchai ruler of Lamphun area.
There is legend about a lua ethnic couple building the first stupa at this site that cause great rains to was the stream bed at the back to unearth gold thus the mountain was called "kham" or gold mountain, but in any case the twin princes of Prince Mahantayose and Prince Anatayose are said to have in 1230 B/E(Buddhist era), to have build a new Chedi on the site of the old one.
But even if you have no interest in History, Wat Phrathat Doi Kham is a nice small Wat, some 10 kilometers from the old city center and not far from Jaiya Mongkol B&B whos owner was the first person to take me to this temple. It is a great place to check out and watch the sun set or rise.
It is in the same area as the night Safari or Royal Flora.
